Garner
Often praised for their “engaging live show” and “solid musicianship,” Garner has been taking its blend of funky grooves, catchy melodies, and tongue-in-cheek lyrics across the country. In the spring of 2006 the Hamilton-based band realized that as they played together something special was happening: venues were selling out and people were raving about their ability to connect and understand the audience. Garner committed to an intense writing and recording schedule and sought out professionals who could help them find their way.
They soon found themselves recording their debut album “It’s About Time” (Nov 07) at the Canterbury Music Company, home to one of their major influences—the Barenaked Ladies. They were also fortunate enough to team up Marc Rogers, the Juno nominated producer and bassist for Norah Jones, The Philosopher Kings, Nelly Furtado, and Holly Cole.
Their music has become as diverse as the band itself. Garner touches everything from rock to R&B to jazz and the places in between. Matt McKenna’s vocals infuse passion while he multitasks multiple instruments. James Bloemendal layers rich textures from his jazz background, and energy from the rock. Matt McFarland lays down the groove and keeps the audience moving as much as he is. With a full length album in hand, another EP on the way this Winter (Nov. 08) and a touring schedule that has taken them from the Atlantic to Pacific Oceans, Garner has more opportunities than they ever dreamed, and they’re really happy about it.
